Attractions
Doncaster has many attractions for the young and the young at heart. For all round family fun, Brockholes Farm, a combination of visitor attraction, working farm, zoo and riding school is an absolute must for animal lovers. Hatfield Water Park offers excellent water sports facilities with friendly instructors on hand for beginners. Minutes from the town centre is Lakeside, home of The Dome, one of the UK's top sports and leisure attractions featuring The Lagoons, a magical 7 pool water world; The Ice Caps split-level ice rink, an indoor climbing wall and health and fitness facilities. Doncaster Rovers Football Club is located in this area, together with the Vue multi-screen cinema complex and The Doncaster Bowl. A wide range of child-friendly restaurants and bars make Lakeside a very popular family visitor destination.


History


There are a number of Museums and Galleries in the Borough of Doncaster; including the Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery situated in pleasant, enclosed gardens in the town centre. Opened in 1964 it tells the story of the Doncaster region using natural history, archaeology, local history, fine and decorative art. There is also a large and varied temporary exhibition programme throughout the year.

Shopping in Doncaster offers a blend of tradition and progress; where the modern shopping experience presented by the flagship Frenchgate Interchange development with a new state of the art bus station, a new shopping centre, a refurbished Frenchgate Shopping Centre and a new 1400 space multi- storey car park is complemented by the warmth and charm of Doncaster's Market traders.

Sports


With Doncaster being home to the St Leger, the oldest classic horse race in the world, there is a strong sporting tradition in the borough. Doncaster Racecourse, currently undergoing major redevelopment work, provides over 30 days of top class racing throughout the year. Race days are a truly social occasion with ample time to savour good food and refreshments in addition to the racing action.
Fitness enthusiasts will relish a visit to the Dome Leisure Centre. With a climbing wall, fitness village, squash courts, sports hall, 7 fun pools and flumes and a split level ice rink there's something for everyone to enjoy. If that hasn't tired you out, why not pay a visit to Bawtry Paintball & Laser Fields with its 100-acres of outdoor terrain and woodland providing thrills and spills galore. Golfers will find 12 courses within the borough many of which are open to both members and non-members with very affordable green fees.
Hatfield Water Park offers canoeing, dinghy sailing, windsurfing, sub-aqua and coarse fishing as well as a superb climbing wall and aerial walkway. Many of Doncaster's sports clubs and societies encourage visitors with a shared appreciation of their sport and spectators are positively welcomed at the brand new Keepmoat Stadium home of Doncaster Rovers FC, Doncaster Lakers RLFC and Doncaster Belles WFC and Castle Park home of Doncaster RFC, the town's high flying rugby union side.
